In the US, National Electrical Code (NEC) 513 addresses aircraft hangars, and European Code IEC 60079-10 defines these hazardous standards. Testing laboratories independently certify equipment that are deemed safe to operate in these environments.
Intercomp is the only manufacturer to have their AC aircraft scale models independently certified by an accredited agency as Intrinsically Safe. All low profile and high capacity aircraft scales are certified for operation in Class I, Division 1 locations (Zone 0 and Zone 1), which encompasses all areas beneath aircraft including use in pits in the hangar floor where fuel and fumes might accumulate.
This increases and maximizes safety for aircraft maintenance and weigh & balance personnel without effecting the accuracy and reliability that Intercomp aircraft scales are known for.
